MEDIA RELEASE: World Singing Day Busselton 2026 - Celebrating Mental Health & Community
A global singing celebration of well-being:
Saturday 17 October 2026 in Busselton, Western Australia
Local choirs, choruses, and singers of all ages and backgrounds will gather in the heart of Busselton to experience the joy of singing together on World Singing Day, Saturday 17 October 2026 from 2-3:30pm.
Building Busselton Town Team, The Shine Project Busselton, and the Lions Club of Busselton have joined forces to bring WSD to Mitchell Park, Busselton.
Building Busselton Town Team member Sheila Bentley was inspired to bring this uplifting community singalong to Busselton after attending World Singing Day in Perth in 2020. “I loved the experience so much that it became a dream of mine to make this happen here in Busselton. Our community loves music and so we’re inviting everyone to come along and sing together in Mitchell Park,” says Sheila, adding: “it’s not how well you sing, it’s how well you feel while singing that makes it so much fun!”
This year’s WSD 2026 highlights the importance of mental health and community as people around the world sing together in their communities.
“Every day we see stories of what’s wrong with the world,” says Scott Johnson, founder of World Singing Day. “It’s stressful and depressing. Yes, there are problems, but a lot more things are going right. Our focus on the worst often blinds us to the fact that we’re all part of a global family doing the best we can.”
Since its beginning in 2012, WSD has promoted a positive human experience through singing. “Unlike politics and religion,” says Johnson, “music has the unique power to bring people together”, adding “Singing with others makes you feel less lonely and more part of the community.”
In the spirit of togetherness, the WSD Busselton team is preparing a program of well-known songs from Australia and abroad, ranging across musical genres and eras - something for all to enjoy.
TV presenter, performer, and educator Brigitta Pollard as MC will bring everyone through the relaxed, uplifting WSD program, with local performers including David Pilpel, Karen Bigwood, Tim Cross, Sussane Seigrist, and singers from Shine Project and Soundwaves Singing Studio leading a joyful singalong for all participants on the day.
There will also be an opportunity to learn and sing together the WSD Song of the Year 2026: Room for Everyone, with vocal coach Sussane Siegrist and Cleanskins community choir co-director Karen Bigwood leading the way.
Siegrist and Shine Project Australia were the first to jump on board for WSD. “As a Busselton-based charity that supports our regional singers and songwriters, Shine Project Australia is really excited to partner up with BBTT for this amazing event”, she enthused. “World Singing Day is about the JOY of singing whilst creating harmonious communities - what can be better than that!”
Come along and feel how uplifting singing together can be!
