From Eco Fashion to Origins

Textile Art Finds a New Home

A once-temporary textile art installation has found new life, and a new home, in Origins Market, thanks to a creative collaboration between Building Busselton Town Team, the Busselton Men’s Shed, and Origins Market itself.

What began as a vibrant, handcrafted feature of Eco Fashion Week Australia 2024 and later displayed at Sculptures by the Bay in Dunsborough, is now a permanent part of Busselton’s creative landscape.

A Partnership Woven with Care

The piece, titled "Our Visual Conversation", was lovingly crafted from repurposed materials: short branches individually wrapped in wool, lace, and fabric, all attached to panels of wire mesh. It’s a tactile tribute to the many local hands — and warm conversations — that brought it into being.

When the search began for a permanent location, the Building Busselton team immediately thought of the creative energy at Origins Market..

“We were approached by champions of the artwork to help find it a home,” said BBTT President Lisa Massey.

“It needed to be indoors, and Origins Market was the perfect fit.”

To ensure the fragile materials could be displayed long-term, the Busselton Men’s Shed stepped up to build custom wooden frames for each of the seven panels — securing the artwork for future enjoyment.

“Now that the artwork is framed, it keeps its form and looks marvellous,” said Lisa.

“We can’t wait for the artists to see their work on display.”

A Colourful Creative Corner

The finished installation now forms a stunning backdrop in Origins Market’s workshop area — a space that’s already buzzing with activity, and now looks even more welcoming and inspiring.

“The space has benefited so much from the colour and texture of the artwork,” said Candice French, Marketing and Promotion Officer for Origins Market.

“It looks creatively funky and inviting — we plan to host more creative offerings and small events here.”

From Temporary to Timeless

This project is a shining example of what’s possible when local groups work together — combining sustainability, community creativity, and practical know-how to give something beautiful a second life.
