Roll Into Fun!

Mitchell Park Gets Its Wheels On!

Skaters, scooters, cyclists and kids on trikes, Mitchell Park was rolling with fun these school holidays as Building Busselton Town Team hosted a wheels-themed family morning in the City centre.

Held on Tuesday 6th October, the “Roll Into Mitchell Park” event was all about encouraging families to ditch the car, get moving, and have some fun — all while learning how to share the road safely.

Road Rules & Rides

A highlight of the morning was the mini cycling circuit, complete with signs and a special guest instructor teaching kids the rules of the road — in a fun, interactive way. South West Cycles and Fat Duck Cycles were on hand offering free bike safety checks, and families even got a chance to take a selfie with a real police car!

“This is a fun and safe way to learn about road rules for cyclists,” said Carolyn Ryder, Sustainability Officer at the City of Busselton.

“We expect families with children will enjoy being part of it.”

Prizes, Giveaways & Dress-Ups

Every half hour, prizes were handed out for the best decorated helmet and the most vibrantly dressed rider — with goodies donated by local businesses including Sportspower. The whole event was designed to encourage safe, people-powered transport and give families something fresh and fun to do in the City centre.

“The novelty of leaving their cars at home means people slow down and spend more time enjoying what our retail streets have to offer,” said BBTT member Lisa Skrypichayko.

Books & Treasure Hunts

It wasn’t all wheels — local bookstore Dymocks hosted a book signing with author Steve Heron, giving young readers a chance to grab a signed copy of Ling Li’s Lantern, a beautiful story about kindness and wisdom.

And of course, the day ended with a classic Where’s Wally Treasure Hunt, where Wally himself made an appearance to hand out prizes and high-fives.

Events like these are what Building Busselton is all about — bringing people together, supporting local businesses, and making the City centre a place where everyone wants to be.
